On 10 August 2020, a freak storm, called a derecho, hit Iowa with hurricane-force winds. The storm caused severe damage to crops, businesses, and homes located in the nine southernmost counties of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

The extent of the damage in communities and farmsteads is still being assessed. The individuals and families most severely affected are the poor, and those already struggling with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

A Derecho Relief Fund has been established to help individuals and families in the affected areas, with priority being given to those who aren’t eligible for state or federal relief. Absolutely all of the monies donated will go directly to help people where it is most needed.

If you are able to help, please donate on-line at www.dbqarch.org, Derecho Relief Fund. Or you can send your donation to: Derecho Relief Fund, Catholic Charities, 1229 Mt. Loretta Avenue, Dubuque IA 52003.

The recovery process will be lengthy and costly. Thank you in advance for your generosity, and for your prayers. May God reward your kindness.
